What's Your Remote Working Style?
Over the last year our skills, knowledge, creativity, behaviour, motivation, patience and resilience have all been tested beyond the realms of comfort. As we continue to search for stability and familiarity, it’s more important now than ever to appreciate our remote working style and that of others …and oh, if only there was a quick and easy way for us to do this!!
Well, those of you who have experienced Insights’ Discovery colour model and have a personal profile will appreciate how wonderfully accurate, immediately impactful and usable the learning is. However, if you haven’t experienced the model then hop on over to our interactive game ‘What’s your Style’ to find out which of the types you might gravitate towards.
Behaviour describes the way we might act, or how we might prefer to approach a task or make a decision. But our preferred style of behaviour also gives us some valuable clues as to how we might lead, where we get our energy from or our best ideas, what we find hard and how we might best create our ideal environment when working from home or in the office.Although this might sound elementary, and as you might have been through a process of deepening self-awareness yourself, keeping this knowledge front and centre is crucial… after all, when we’re busy hitting deadlines and doing what we do, usually turning the lens inward is the last thing on our mind.
The Insights Discovery model of behaviour is an immediately impactful, meaningful and sustainable tool that gives individuals, teams and leaders a deep understanding of themselves and the needs of others. Although once you’ve been introduced to the colour theory and personal profiles you see people differently, there’s always a need to keep the application of them visible.
So, no matter what your experience and to help shift the lens inward, here’s how the four colour energies show up in remote working. To make this more than just a good read, be objective and put each through the following filters and challenge your thoughts. You never know, you might just pick something up that you can apply:
- Which style resonates the most?
- Who in my team displays which behaviours?
- What impact does my style have on them?
- Is there anything I could do differently to meet their needs when working remotely?
Colourful Remote Working Styles:
The Colour Works uses Insights Discovery to help create vibrant working dynamics with a range of coaching and development offers. We've broken down the remote working styles based on the colour energies... are you Sunshine Yellow? Cool Blue?
If you haven't taken part in Insights Discovery, our interactive game will help you identify your personality type.
Fiery Red Energies Remote Working Style:
- Fast-paced and action-oriented
- Self-reliant, likes being in control
- May over-prioritise work at the expense of team / family social time
Sunshine Yellow Energies Remote Working Style:
- Sociable and engaging – will want regular social contact
- Enthusiastic and idealistic while positive – cynical if rejected
- Likes variety and new initiatives – needs to stay focused, though
Earth Green Energies Remote Working Style:
- Patient, organised and steady
- Wanting to be of service and to care for and support others
- Will miss intimate connections if living alone
Cool Blue Energies Remote Working Style:
- Structured, disciplined and organised
- Becomes fully immersed in projects, placing high value on completing them
- May become frustrated when information isn't forthcoming from others in a timely fashion
To conclude, if there are people in your team that share the same style of behaviour as you, it’s likely that you might naturally appreciate them more than those who demonstrate a very different style. This can unconsciously create silos, so be careful not to avoid those who do things differently to you, or dismiss their opinions – after all, they’re brilliant at all the things that might challenge you.
